Preventing Snowboarding Injuries

Snowboarding is considered an extreme sport and therefore has risks associated with it. There are many different injuries that can happen due to snowboarding. Learning what can be done to prevent them is essential if you want to master snowboarding without hurting yourself. So whether you’re off to the winding pistes of Zermatt or a val d isere ski resort, here are some tips to help you stay safe while you’re out on the terrain.

The first tip is to make sure you are physically fit. You can do this by working out in the gym to build leg muscles and your core stability. You should workout before snowboarding or at least do some basic stretching and warming up.

The second tip is to make sure you are hydrated enough. This might think this sounds silly, but dehydration is a big cause of injury due to your body getting a workout on the slopes. There are special made bags that have an attached hose and reservoir that you hook to your chest so you can get your fluids while on the slopes.

The third tip is to follow all the rules and guidelines while snowboarding. These rules are put in place to help keep you safe. It might be tempting to take short cuts or go past your bounds when snowboarding, but do not do this. The boundaries are put there for a good reason and usually it is because of crevices or dangerous cliffs that you cannot see.

The fourth tip is to wear the proper clothing and safety gear. Clothing should not be too tight and allow you to move around freely. It is almost impossible to snowboard if you are bound up too tight and unable to move properly. Also, your clothes should be water proof and your safety gear should be on before attempting to hit the slopes.

The fifth and final tip, and possibly the most important, is DON’T FORGET YOUR PHONE. Smartphones can be invaluable if you get into a tricky situation outdoors and need to be located and helped to safety.

It is easy to get caught up in the moment when snowboarding and this can lead to serious injury. By taking the proper steps to make sure you are doing what you should be, it will help to minimize your chances of getting injured.
